MUNSEY FIRST TO 1000 AS SCOTLAND THRASH NAMIBIA

George Munsey became the first batter to pass 1000 runs in the current ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle, as he helped Scotland defeat Namibia by 55 runs.

A morning downpour in King City saw a four and a half hour delay to proceedings, with the match reduced to 24 overs per side - Scotland posting 164 thanks to an explosive 31-ball 59 from George Munsey, who looked like he was batting on a different surface to everyone else.

The Scots looked on course to post a total well beyond that thanks to Munsey's start as they reached 78 in eight overs - but Ruben Trumpelmann (3-24) and Bernard Scholtz (3-24) hit back for Namibia as Scotland were bowled out for 164 from the final ball of their innings.

Brad Currie once again set the tone with the ball as he removed Jan Balt (0) and Jan Frylinck (3) in his first two overs, whilst Malan Kruger (13) was run out as Namibia's top order struggled to get the Scotland attack away.

Scotland's bowlers kept the pressure on their hosts, and when Safyaan Sharif removed Gerhard Erasmus for a painstaking 30-ball five, Namibia were just 36-5 in the 12th over - now requiring 129 from 72 deliveries.

JJ Smit and Zane Green threatened a remarkable comeback, keeping up with the required rate as they added 50 in 31 deliveries. But Smit holed out to Munsey off the bowling of Chris Greaves in the 17th over to depart for a frenetic 13-ball 26, and all-but end Namibia's hopes.

Scotland's spinners made light work of the Namibia lower order as Greaves (3-24), Mark Watt (1-13) and Michael Leask (1-41) helped dismiss their opponents for 109, as the Scots sealed a convincing victory.

Munsey, who went to 1000 CWCL2 runs in just 17 innings, said: "It certainly wasn't easy, but I think it made the game plan quite simple, if they went full we hit straight, and if they went short we try and hit square, so it made things super simple.

"We bowled really well which made it difficult for them, we were able to put pressure on early which is key in these situations."

That win sends Scotland top of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 table, with one game remaining on their current tour, against hosts Canada on Sunday.
