CARTER STARS WITH BAT AND BALL AS SCOTLAND MAKE IT TWO FROM TWO
Darcey Carter starred with bat and ball to fire Scotland to a nerve-jangling five-run victory over Tanzania.
Carter struck an unbeaten 76, supported by Ellen Watson (23) and Priyanaz Chatterji (19) as Scotland posted what looked like an imposing 153-5. But Tanzania were always in the chase, and finished just five runs short - Carter again pivotal as she took 3-23.
Scotland Captain Sarah Bryce said: "It was another tight one, Tanzania played brilliantly and really put us to the test, but we're delighted to come out with another win.
"Darcey's just done brilliantly well, hopefully she can keep it going because it's great to see someone so young doing so well.
"I think we've been exceptional at the back-end with the ball, so credit to our bowlers for sticking at it in those tough situation. I think that's great to see, when the pressure's on they've really stood up and that's been really important."
Carter, who had already struck two half-centuries in four innings on this tour, carried her bat for the second-straight game as she made a career-best in T20I cricket - finding the boundary 10 times in her 76.
A 70-run stand with Watson for the second wicket was the key, before at the death Scotland added 51 from the final five overs - Chatterji's 11-ball 19 adding important impetus as Scotland reached 153.
In reply, Tanzania enjoyed a superb powerplay, Saum Mtae and Fatuma Kibasu bringing up their 50-run opening partnership inside six overs.
Carter made the critical breakthrough, striking twice in the same over - bowling Mtae (27), and having Neema Pius caught behind without scoring, to reduce Tanzania to 58-2.
Scotland's spinners really started to pull things back, and when Niamh Robertson-Jack had Kibasu (28) caught on the boundary by Carter, Tanzania were 68-3 at the halfway stage, still requiring 86.
But the next five overs saw the game swing back in the chasing side's favour - Hudaa Omary and Jenipher Kimaro added 54 in just 33 deliveries - and when the latter fell, run out, just 32 from 27 were required.
Tanzania continued to cause themselves problems, as Nasra Mohamedi was also run out - and with Scotland starving Omary of the strike, Carter and Rachel Slater also struck as Tanzania slid to 133-7.
When Chloe Abel removed Shufaa Mohamedi with the first ball of the final over, Scotland had taken five wickets for 16 runs in 22 deliveries - eventually closing the game out to win by five runs.
