Scotland Women suffered a 58 run defeat to the Netherlands in the opening game of the three-match ONDI series, as Phebe Molkenboer's terrific 106 led her side to victory.

Batting the first, the Netherlands posted 270-4, with Molkenboer, who's 106 came from 144 deliveries, batting the entire 50 overs, falling only to the final ball of the innings.

Molkenboer was superbly supported by debutant Sanya Khurana (47) and Babette de Leede (69) - adding 66 with Khurana for the first wicket, and 138 with her captain for the second.

Scotland struggled to take wickets throughout the Dutch innings as substantial partnerships were built twice, with Abtaha Maqsood (1-35) and Darcey Carter (1-55) the only bowlers to make breakthroughs - Molkenboer and de Leede were both run out.

In response, Scotland found themselves behind the rate early on as the slipped to 59-3, with Carter (4), Maryam Faisal (15) and Charlotte Nevard (0) all falling cheaply.

Pippa Sproul (79) and Megan McColl (33) led the Scotland fightback as they added 73 for the fourth wicket - Sproul going to a superb first international half-century from 72 deliveries.

However, McColl fell to Silver Siegers, caught looking to go over mid-off, and when Rebecca McCrossan (5) and Ellen Watson (4) fell in quick succession, Scotland were 156-6 with their hopes fading.

Those hopes had all but gone when Sproul was dismissed by Caroline de Lange for an outstanding 79 - with Scotland ultimately falling 58 runs short, as they were bowled out for 212.

The second ODI takes place at Stirling County CC on Sunday 30 August, with entry free for spectators.
