SCOTS READY FOR WORLD CUP DESPITE NAMIBIA DEFEAT

Scotland's men feel ready for the challenge ahead at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, despite losing their final warmup match by six runs against Namibia on Wednesday.

Namibia racked up 226-4 in their 20 overs on an outstanding wicket at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bangalore, Jan Frylinck top-scoring with 88 from 44 balls. In reply Brandon McMullen hammered an astonishing 95 from 39 balls, including six boundaries and eight sixes, while captain Richie Berrington made 46 from 26 balls, but the Scots fell just short in the chase. The teams then played a Super Over as part of final preparation before the competition starts in three days time.

Among the bowling highlights for Scotland were a first wicket in full international colours for Zainullah Ihsan, and an economical spell of 1/19 from Mark Watt, but with a pristine and fast outfield it was tough going for Scotland, who wore their new World Cup shirts for the first time in competition.

The Scots now move on to Kolkata on Thursday, ahead of their Group C opener on Saturday against West Indies at Eden Gardens.

Brandon McMullen said: "It was a lovely wicket out there, it was good prep going into the West Indies game. We had to chase a big total today which put us under pressure from ball one, so as a batting unit there are a lot of positives to take out of today.

"Even though we went the distance with the ball there were still positives, I thought Mark Watt bowled exceptionally well, and overall it was a good run around to get some miles in the legs.

"Everyone in the squad is buzzing to get started against the West Indies in our first game - we were indoors in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, but everyone's fit and strong and super excited for this opportunity."
