The Board of Cricket Scotland is committed to tackling all forms of discrimination. It utterly rejects racism, sexism and all forms of unacceptable behaviour, as it strives to become a governing body to be proud of; one that respects and values every individual within cricket, regardless of their background, identity, and beliefs, and is trusted to lead.
In response to a series of recent events, the governing body has undergone substantial changes to its leadership and Board structure. This work remain ongoing in partnership with multiple stakeholders.
Below can be found more details around these events, including published reports and comment.
In December 2021 Scotland’s national agency for sport, sportscotland, commissioned EDI experts Plan4Sport to carry out an independent review into racism within Scottish cricket. The findings were detailed in the Changing The Boundaries review, published in July 2022, which found the governance of Cricket Scotland to be institutionally racist.
An action plan was created with recommendations for immediate change within the governing body, which Cricket Scotland pledged to act upon in full. More details about this action plan can be found further down this page.
The subsequent independent investigative referrals process has been supported by Cricket Scotland. This process has now concluded. The governing body is fully committed to improving our game and acting on the recommendations emanating from the referrals process. More details about the referrals process can be found further down this page.

This action plan, completed in November 2024, explains Cricket Scotland’s response and progress to the Changing The Boundaries recommendations. Central to these recommendations is a commitment to ensure cricket is a welcoming place for all groups and sections of society.
During the independent investigative process, a series of recommendations were made for Cricket Scotland to action upon, many of these duplicated across various cases. The governing body have accepted these actions in full.
These recommendations have been developed into an internal Anti-Racism Delivery Plan, which Cricket Scotland is actioning, tracking and reporting progress to sportscotland on a regular basis.
In March 2024, Cricket Scotland published the McKinney Report, an independent neutral assessment commissioned by the governing body to consider the culture of Cricket Scotland in relation to its treatment of females, and of the wider treatment of Women and Girls’ cricket within Scotland.
The report was split into analysing behaviours, cultures, and practices in Cricket Scotland pre-2022, before the publishing of the Changing the Boundaries report, and post-2022. It covered six key themes including culture and inclusion, leadership, general behaviours employment practices and wellbeing, psychological safety and sexism and misogyny.
Within the six themes, the two priorities identified by interviewees for further change and improvement were general behaviours, and sexism and misogyny.
Nine recommendations were developed for Cricket Scotland to implement in support of improving the culture within the governing body and the wider sport, leading to behavioural change. The governing body is committed to adopting these recommendations in full.
