SCOTLAND XI READY FOR EUROPEAN CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS DAY

Scotland will be eyeing up a Women's European Cricket Championship title today, as one of four remaining sides left battling it out on Finals Day at Cartama Oval, Malaga.

 

Competing in the T10 competition for the first time, Scotland lost their first three games of the event, before a 'Golden Ball' victory over Italy sparked a turnaround in fortunes.

 

A chase of 127 to defeat defending champions England, inspired by a 14-ball, unbeaten 46 from skipper Katherine Fraser, saw Scotland really announce their presence in Spain.

 

Victories over Ireland and the Netherlands, in which Abbi Aitken-Drummond (51*) struck the Scots' first half-century at the ECCW, ensured Craig Wallace's side would move on to Finals Day.

 

 

Reflecting on the week so far, Wallace said: "I've really enjoyed the week so far, it's been such a good learning opportunity for everyone.

 

"I think T10 cricket's amazing in that respect, because you have to react and cope with different situations and deal with the pressure of not having that time to get in and settle in, so it's been an amazing development in that way.

 

"In the first couple of games, we obviously had to work on a couple of things, but now we've got some really good momentum, and we've started to play a really exciting brand of cricket, and really taking the game on from ball one with bat and ball."

 

Scotland will face Ireland in the Eliminator from 08:35 UK time.
