MEGAN MCCOLL AND SCOTLAND EYEING CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT AGAINST BANGLADESH

Scotland Women will be hoping to take a big step towards World Cup qualification on Tuesday when they face Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium.

 

Wins over the West Indies and Thailand have put Scotland in a strong position heading into their final two games, but the unbeaten Bangladesh will provide a stern test under the lights in Lahore.

 

One theme of Scotland’s victories thus far has been Megan McColl runs, the middle-order batter scoring 45 against the West Indies, before recording a maiden ODI half-century on Sunday against Thailand.

 

“I think it was really good to get back out there and get a win on the board after the Pakistan game,” said McColl.

 

“I think as a team there’s a lot we can learn from that win. Thailand came out and bowled really well, and we probably didn’t react quickly enough to what they were doing - but for us to get over 200 in the end, we were able to pull it back well.

 

“With the ball, I thought we were excellent. Slats (Rachel Slater) did really well up top in her spell, and then (Katherine) Fraser and Abtaha (Maqsood) came on in the middle overs - we knew we needed to bowl at the stumps, and they did that superbly.

 

“There are probably little things in the field that we can keep improving on, but to get that win without playing at our best is a positive. We know what we have to keep working on going into the next game against Bangladesh, and hopefully we can use those learnings to put in a positive performance."

 

 

“For myself, it was pleasing to be able to contribute, I just had to stick in there and do what the team needed me to do.

 

“Batting with Brycie (Kathryn Bryce) made it easier to get in and get going, and then it was just about trying to bat for as long as possible, soak up the pressure a little bit and try and put that back on Thailand.

 

“I really enjoyed batting out there, it was a shame not to be able to help us bat out the whole 50 overs, but to get over 200 in the end, and give us something to defend, was pleasing.”
