IHSAN AND JONES RETURN AS ROBERTSON GETS FIRST SENIOR CALL UP
The Scotland Men’s squad for August’s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Canada and UAE has been confirmed.
There are three changes from the squad that toured Nepal in May, with a first call up for Falkland’s Lyle Robertson, while Zainullah Ihsan and Michael Jones return. Michael Leask drops out of the squad while Brad Currie and Owen Gould are unavailable for selection due to injury.
The series takes place at Forthill in Broughty Ferry, home of Forfarshire CC, and will be Scotland’s final fixtures in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. The Scots currently sit joint second in the table alongside Netherlands, five points behind leaders USA.

“We’re looking forward to hosting Canada and UAE in what promises to be another highly competitive series. The tour of Nepal saw us played some very good cricket against excellent teams in challenging conditions, and we are ready to build on those performances and continue to improve back in front of our own fans.
“It’s great to welcome back Zainullah Ihsan and Michael Jones to the squad for this series. Zainullah has shown excellent progress across the summer with his performances in training, in club cricket for GHK and in regional cricket with Western Warriors. Michael missed our previous two tours due to his Lancashire commitments, so it's exciting to have a player of his quality available again for a home series.
“We’re also pleased to award a first senior international call-up to Lyle Robertson. As a young player he represented Scotland at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the Caribbean, and since then he’s continued to show steady development. He thoroughly deserves his selection after a series of impressive performances for Falkland, for Scotland “A” and for the Caledonian Highlanders in the Men’s Regional Super Series.
“Selection is always very competitive given the depth we have, and on this occasion, Michael Leask misses out. His experience and efforts for Scotland over many years have been hugely valuable, but at this time we feel the spinners selected ahead of him are likely to play more prominent roles with the ball in this series, so that’s why that decision was made. It’s unfortunate for Brad and Owen that they are both currently injured and we wish them well in their recovery, but their absence in turn provides others with opportunities.
“It’s been a productive period of preparation, both individually and collectively as a squad, and the players have worked extremely hard to put themselves in the best possible position. The squad head into these fixtures with a clear understanding of how we want to play and a strong focus on delivering our best performances, both individually and as a team.
“On a personal level, I'm really looking forward to a first home series as Scotland Head Coach. Forthill is a fantastic venue, and the opportunity to play in front of home supporters again is something the whole squad are excited about. We hope the weather continues to be good and that some excellent crowds turn out to support our team across the series.”
