SARAH BRYCE READY TO COMPETE ON GLOBAL STAGE AT WPL

Scotland’s Sarah Bryce is ready to take her place on one of world cricket's biggest stages tomorrow, as she becomes the second Scot to compete in India's Women's Premier League (WPL).

 

Following in the footsteps of her sister, Kathryn, who played for the Gujarat Giants in 2024, Sarah will feature for the Delhi Capitals in the 2025 edition of the leading women’s franchise competition.

 

“I’ve been here with Delhi for about 10 days now, and it’s been a good build-up so far,” said Sarah.

 

“It’s been busy with lots of media, training, we’ve had a couple of practice games, so it’s been all go, but it’s been good fun.

 

“The most eye-opening experience so far has probably just been the number of people involved, whether that’s the support staff, or the net bowlers that are helping out – it’s like we have three people covering the role that one person would normally have!

 

“There’s also been a lot of media shoots and appearances, which has been fun, but it’s also been very busy and hectic – I think I’m quite a patient person, which has been important, and when I’m at training, I’m able to switch off from the other stuff and just enjoy cricket, because that’s where I feel most at home.”

 

Alongside India stars Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma, the Delhi Capitals also have internationals Alice Capsey, Meg Lanning, Annabel Sutherland, Jess Jonnassen and Marizanne Kapp in their ranks.

 

 

After a two-week prep period, Sarah and the Capitals side get their tournament underway on Saturday when they face Mumbai Indians in Baroda, Gujarat.

 

“I think just getting to play in India is going to be a bit of a bucket-list moment, experiencing the crowds, the noise that they create,” she continued.

 

“I’ve obviously seen it on TV and heard from Kathryn and others that it’s like nowhere else, so I think that’s what I’m most looking forward to, just getting to experience that, whilst also playing with world class players, and just trying to learn as much as I can."

 

The Scotland wicket-keeper is no stranger to franchise tournaments, having been a regular in the Hundred since it’s inception, before starring for the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL towards the end of 2024.

 

 

“The more you play with these world class players, the more you realise they are just like you are, but there’s definitely players I watch and look up to, and think, ‘wow, they’re so good, I’ve still got a long way to go’.

 

“I’ve had success in leagues that these players have been a part of, and I can take confidence from that, but I still feel like there’s so much to learn.

 

“The aim is to break into that first XI and put in some good performances and contribute to the team winning, but I know that’s going to be a challenge as there’s such good depth in the group.”

 

Following the WPL, Sarah’s attention will turn back to Scotland, and the goal of reaching a second successive World Cup, in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier in April.

 

“We can take a lot of confidence from the fact that we’ve gotten over the line in a qualifier, and we’ve had that experience of beating the West Indies and Pakistan, even if they were warm-ups.

 

 

“We know it’s going to be a challenge, there are some quality teams in this qualifier and it’s only an eight-team world cup, but even though it’s a different format we can definitely take confidence from the last year and the success that we’ve had.

 

“Ever since I can remember it was a dream to be at a World Cup for Scotland, and what that could do for the game, the exposure that has. To be a part of that has been unbelievable, seeing the reaction back home, and we just want to keep building on that going forward.”
