FRESH FACES IN SCOTLAND SQUAD TO FACE CANADA AND NAMIBIA

The Scotland Men’s squad for the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Series in Canada has been confirmed.
Central Districts batter Tom Bruce is called up to the squad for the first time. Bruce represented the Scotland Development side in 2016, before later achieving international honours with New Zealand, but has now committed to Scotland, who he qualifies for through his Edinburgh-born father.

In total there are three changes from the squad for June’s series in Dundee against Nepal and Netherlands, including an international return for Somerset pace bowler Josh Davey, who last featured for Scotland at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022. There is also a recall for spinner Chris Greaves, who impressed during the T20 Tri-Series in Glasgow and the ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier.
Several players not included in the squads were considered for selection, but were unavailable due to work, personal circumstances or county commitments.
Scotland will face Canada and Namibia across four matches in Ontario between 29 August and 6 September, with fixtures being played at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City near Toronto.
Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland Head of Performance, said:
“We’re excited to welcome Tom Bruce into the squad for the first time. He has had a very successful career in New Zealand cricket, but he is proud of his Scottish heritage and we’ve been in conversations with him for some time about committing to playing for Scotland. He’s excited to get involved and sees a huge level of opportunity for both him and the team moving forward.
“It’s excellent to have Josh Davey back, as he’s been unavailable to us for some time due to his county commitments. We’ve remained in constant dialogue with Josh during that time and he’s always expressed his desire to continue to play for Scotland, so it’s great to welcome him back. He’s joining us off the back of playing 50-over cricket for Somerset, so he should be really well prepared for this series.

“Chris Greaves deserves his recall after bowling very well in the T20 matches earlier this summer, and he will give us a real point of difference again with his leg spin. It’s been a really busy summer, so it’s been helpful for many of the squad to get some downtime before building up to this series.
“We’re really looking forward to this next assignment in Canada, which is an excellent opportunity to get more points on the board and move up the CWCL2 table. There’ll be a three-week preparation period for these games which should serve us well for the challenge ahead.”
