GIRLS-ONLY HUB WICKETZ OPENS IN GLASGOW

GIRLS-ONLY HUB WICKETZ OPENS IN GLASGOW

Cricket Scotland, in partnership with Lord's Taverners, is delighted to announce the opening of a new, girls-only Wicketz Hub in Glasgow, commencing on Thursday 6 February.

The programme, which will be based at Balgrayhill Community Centre in the north of the city, is the first hub to be created in Glasgow since the launch of Cricket Scotland's new strategy in August 2024. The governing body has committed to doubling the number of Wicketz hubs in Scotland to include six new communities over the next four years. The growth and increase of opportunity for women and girls to play cricket at all levels is another key strategic priority of the governing body.

The Wicketz programme is run in partnership with Lord's Taverners to provide fun, inclusive and impactful cricket programmes that empower young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop knowledge, skills, capabilities and confidence through the means of cricket.

Zain Muhammad, Cricket Scotland's Wicketz Development Officer for Glasgow, said:

“We’re excited to launch Glasgow's first ever girls-only Wicketz hub, where we'll aim to provide girls with a fun, safe, and welcoming space. Our goal is to break down cultural, social and financial barriers, ensuring that every girl, regardless of background, has the opportunity to enjoy cricket and develop valuable skills in an environment where she feels supported and empowered.

"We’re looking forward to seeing this hub come to life on Thursday 6 February and making a positive impact on the girls involved and in the wider community.”
