SCOTLAND MAKE IT BACK-TO-BACK WINS TO OPEN U19 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Scotland Men's Under 19s defeated Jersey by four wickets to make it back-to-back victories to open their World Cup qualifying campaign.

 

After a comfortable win over Sweden yesterday, Scotland found themselves bowling first once again - and despite a positive start from Jersey, restricted their opponents to 219-9.

 

Jersey strongly - as they did on their way to 268 against Denmark - behind opener Jack Kemp, fresh from a century in that game, and found themselves with a platform to build from at 72-1. 

 

But Manu Saraswat took three wickets in quick succession to check their progress, eventually finishing with 4-43 - wickets fell regularly throughout from there, but contributions from Freddie Harben (49) and Barney Aston (36) helped Jersey to 219.

 

 

Scotland were always ahead in the run chase thanks to a positive start from Olly Pillinger (24) and Max Chaplin (49) - whilst Rory Grant (51) and Saraswat (64*) excelled once again as they both made their second half-century in as many games.

 

Jersey did show some fight as they reduced Scotland from 165-2 to 214-6 - but Saraswat remained throughout, striking the winning runs from the first ball of the 46th over.
