DAVEY READY TO MAKE AN IMPACT AGAIN FOR SCOTLAND
Scotland bowler Josh Davey is targeting another World Cup appearance with Scotland, as he prepares to make his return to the international arena.
Davey is back in Scotland colours for the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Namibia and Canada in Toronto, nearly three years since his last international appearance at the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
The 35-year old Somerset paceman has been unavailable since due to his county commitments, and while he is moving to Leicestershire in time for the start of the 2026 season, the fortunes of his nation have never been far from his mind. Now Davey hopes to help push the Scots through to qualify for the ICC World Cup in 2027.
"It's great to be back and see some old friends, and make some new ones as well," said Davey. "Doug Watson mentioned yesterday it's been six years since I played an ODI for Scotland, so it's been a long time!
"It's always been tricky to manage coming into the squad alongside county commitments, and it would probably not always be fair to the guys who have been there regularly who put in the hard yards to get us to tournaments, so I could always understand it from Cricket Scotland's side and from Somerset's point of view.
"I always wanted to come back when the opportunity came along, because I owe a lot to Scottish cricket. Playing for Scotland was a real shop window that helped my career and get me established in the county game. I've probably had the best memories of my career in a Scotland jersey - some of the tours I've been on over the years have been incredible, and hopefully there's a few more ahead.
"It's great to experience different cultures and places to play cricket like here in Toronto. The 2015 World Cup, travelling around Australia and New Zealand, was just incredible. Everyone aspires to play at a World Cup, and I hope to be able to play at another one before I finally hang my boots up."
Batter Tom Bruce, called up for the first time, is poised to make his debut this week, and with Davey back in the ranks there's a fresh energy in the Scotland squad as they look to climb up the ICC CWCL2 table, whilst moving on some of the disappointment of the recent T20 World Cup Qualifier.
"One thing the guys here have is they are very resilient. You have to be in Associate cricket, because every game is so cut throat, and so they will bounce back. We just have to look forward and rebuild, and I am sure there will be some great days ahead.
"These games will be really interesting - the wickets might be favourable to spin, so they might be low scoring. There's a few unknowns, but both Namibia and Canada have some really dangerous players, so we need to be relentless with our skills, grind the opposition down and absorb the pressure.
"It'll be tough cricket as it always is in theses series, but we definitely have the ability and depth in the squad to come out with some positive results on this tour."
Scotland begin their tour of Canada on Friday when they face Namibia, before meeting the hosts on Sunday. Both games can be watched live on ICC TV, with coverage starting at 1600 UK.
