SCOTLAND END EMERGING NATIONS TROPHY WITH DEFEAT TO THAILAND

SCOTLAND END EMERGING NATIONS TROPHY WITH DEFEAT TO THAILAND

Scotland's Emerging Nations Trophy campaign ended in disappointing fashion, as a three-wicket defeat to Thailand saw their opponents claim the inaugural crown.

Scotland entered the game knowing a win would secure the title, but came undone against Thailand's spinners, as they were bowled out for just 63 - the hosts reaching their target inside 12 overs, despite Olivia Bell's 5-8.

Sarah Bryce said: "It's obviously a disappointing end to the tournament for us, but I couldn't be prouder of how we thought right to the end, and we really gave it our best crack, but credit to Thailand, they played really well.

"We've got so much that we can learn from this tournament, it's been great that we've been here for these seven games and the quad-series beforehand, and we'll look to work on that going into the qualifier in Nepal."

No Scotland batter was able to reach double figures as Thailand thrived in home conditions, Thipatcha Putthawong knocking over four of Scotland's top six as she took 4-17.

Suleeporn Laomi (3-11) was also outstanding as Thailand prevented Scotland building any partnerships of note - a 17 run stand between Ailsa Lister (7) and Ellen Watson (8) the best of the innings.

It was never going to be an easy reply for Thailand, who had already failed to chase scores of 92 and 80 in this competition - and they were in early trouble at 7-3 as Bell took three wickets in her opening two overs.

Natthakan Chatham looked to be aggressive on a tricky pitch, smashing a a quick-fire 9-ball 16, whilst at the other end, Naruemol Chaiwai (17*) held the innings together.

Scotland would stay in the game right to the end as Abtaha Maqsood and Katherine Fraser also struck, but with five required, Onnicha Kamchomphu swept her first ball for six to seal the title for Thailand.
