BRAD CURRIE "HUNGRY" FOR MORE WORLD CUP OPPORTUNITIES

Scotland's Brad Currie heads into the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier hungry to represent his nation at another World Cup.

 

The left-arm seamer missed two of Scotland's four games at last year's T20 World Cup in the Caribbean through injury, and is keen to have another opportunity on the biggest stage.

 

Currie said: "For me, [2024] was just a great taste. Just being around the hotel with the England boys and Australia boys, I'm looking around going, this is amazing, this is what I've grown up wanting to do, representing Scotland at a World Cup.

 

"It's a great occasion, but I've only had a taste of it, and I want to get more. There's so many guys in the squad now that have had four or five World Cups, and I'm here sat on one having only played one proper game, so I'm hungry for more.

 

"A World Cup in India would just be phenomenal, I really want to play in front of millions of fans, and have that atmosphere and be able to soak it all in - I think the adrenaline, the high and the buzz that you'd get off that would be phenomenal."

 

 

To get another bite at a World Cup, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka next February and March, Currie and his teammates must navigate a tough qualifier against the Netherlands, Italy, Jersey and Guernsey.

 

"We’re obviously aware of what this tournament brings, it's a pretty cutthroat tournament, only being four games," continued Currie.

 

"Each team has got their own strengths - we played against Jersey in a warm-up game, and they opted for some more unique fields in the powerplay which suited their own bowlers.

 

"They're the sort of things we have to be aware of and appreciate, but then come back at them and use our own strengths to try and dictate the game.

 

"We've played these teams enough now that we know plenty about the guys from Jersey, Guernsey and Italy, but I always like to say that we dictate the game, bring our own strengths, and then it doesn't really matter who the opposition are."

 

 

In the previous T20 World Cup Qualifier in 2023, Currie starred with the ball, taking 12 wickets at an average of just eight, as Scotland went undefeated on home turf to book their spot in the Caribbean.

 

And the Sussex man believes the experience of thriving under pressure will serve Scotland well in the Qualifer at Voorburg, which begins this weekend.

 

"I think a massive thing that I've always learned playing with these guys is that when it matters, the guys show up and actually it brings out their best. 

 

"A lot of our guys are big game players, I think that showed when we played against Australia, you saw Brandon (McMullen) taking down the Aussie bowlers, and that's no mean feat at all.

 

"Even in those run chases against Namibia, with Leasky (Michael Leask) and Berro (Richie Berrington) just being so clutch, and so I think these tournaments, when there's something on the line, it really brings the best out in us."
