KATHRYN BRYCE, NAYMA SHEIKH AND SCOTLAND WOMEN NAMED FINALISTS AT SCOTTISH SPORTS AWARDS

Kathryn Bryce, Nayma Sheikh and Scotland Women have all been named as finalists at the 2024 Scottish Sports Awards.

 

It has been a historic year for Scottish women's cricket, qualifying for a first-ever Women's T20 World Cup, whilst the Under 19s side secured their place at next year's youth showpiece event once again.

 

That historic qualification, which saw Scotland just the 12th nation to ever compete at the 10-team event, saw Craig Wallace's side nominated for Team of the Year alongside Celtic Women and Glasgow Warriors.

 

Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce has been at the forefront of her side's success, scoring 189 runs @ 47.25 and taking nine wickets @ 6.88 in the qualifier earlier this year, including 4-8 and an unbeaten 35 in the decisive semi-final against Ireland.

 

Bryce went on to dominate the English domestic season at the Blaze, helping her side win the Charlotte Edwards Cup, and winning the 2024 Women's Player of the Year award at the PCA Awards.

 

Her success has seen her named a finalist for Female Athlete of the Year, joining Neah Evans (Cycling) and Beth Potter (Triathlon).

 

 

Nayma Sheikh was a member of the Scotland Women's squad that earned their place at the Women's T20 World Cup, and also helped the Under 19s side reach the 2025 U19 Women's T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

 

Whilst not part of the 15-player squad selected for the World Cup in the UAE, Sheikh did take career-best figures on Scotland's tour of the Netherlands in August, her 4-14 earning Player of the Match honours as Scotland defeated their hosts.

 

Sheikh's exploits have seen her nominated for the Young Athlete of the Year Award alongside Erin Boothman (Cycling) and Aidan Lennan (Kickboxing).

 

The Scottish Sports Awards 2024 will take place on Wednesday 4 December 2024 at the Glasgow Science Centre & IMAX where a fantastic year of achievement will be honoured on the biggest screen in Scotland. Guests will be treated to a night of celebration, food and drinks as well as rubbing shoulders with the great and the good of Scottish Sport.
