CRICKET SCOTLAND SUPPORTS CLEAN SPORT WEEK

At the start of 2025's Clean Sport Week, Cricket Scotland is showing its support for anti-doping education and its commitment to keeping cricket clean.

 

The national governing body is supporting this year's theme for Clean Sport Week - "The Next Generation" - and is working to ensure that players, coaches and the wider cricketing community in Scotland are aware of the importance of keeping our sport bright and clean now and into the future.

 

Cricket Scotland maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward doping in sport. We believe that success is achieved through dedication, skill development, and ethical competition. The governing body's anti-doping program operates on three key pillars: education, prevention, and support.

 

Dr Rajeev McCrae-Routray, Head of Science of Medical, said:

 

"I'm proud to outline our comprehensive approach to anti-doping education and our unwavering commitment to the principles of clean sport. Our program is designed not only to meet international standards but to foster a culture where integrity and fair play are foundational values passed on to each generation of cricketers.

 

"This year's theme, "The Next Generation," resonates deeply with our long-term vision. We recognize that today's young cricketers represent not only Scotland's cricketing future but also the future guardians of our sport's integrity. With this in mind, we have enhanced our youth-focused initiatives:

 

• We have implemented age-appropriate anti-doping education , ensuring young players entering into international competition understand the importance of clean sport from the earliest stages of their development.

 

• We have a dedicated web page https://www.cricketscotland.com/Explore/Policies/Anti-Doping with easy to follow content and information for younger players to explain anti-doping principles and guidance.

 

• We look forward to launching our mentorship program pairs established players with emerging talents, creating opportunities for knowledge sharing about the responsibilities and ethical considerations that come with representing Scotland.

 

"Support for players includes regular educational workshops covering the WADA Prohibited List, testing procedures, and supplement risks; confidential advisory services for medication and supplement queries; and practical guidance on what in and out of competition anti-doping testing involves. 

 

"As we invest in The Next Generation, we are not simply teaching rules and regulations—we are cultivating ambassadors for clean sport. We are instilling values that extend beyond cricket and into all aspects of life: integrity, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others.

 

Cricket Scotland is committed to continuously improving our anti-doping program, staying abreast of emerging challenges, and providing our players with the knowledge and support they need to compete cleanly, proudly and successfully on the world stage. By prioritising education and prevention today, we are safeguarding the integrity of cricket for generations to come."
