SCOTLAND BOUNCE BACK WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER THAILAND

Scotland Women returned to winning ways with a dominant 58-run victory over Thailand.

 

A sixth ODI half-century in eight innings from Kathryn Bryce, and a first ODI 50 from Megan McColl, saw Scotland post 206, bowled out inside 41 overs.

 

In response, Thailand were dismissed for just 148, despite an opening partnership of 41, with Abataha Maqsood, Katherine Fraser and Rachel Slater taking three wickets apiece.

 

Batting first for the third consecutive game, Scotland lost Pippa Sproul early, caught in the ring by Natthakan Chantham off the bowling of Nattaya Boochatham as the opener looked to hit over the top.

 

Abbi Aitken-Drummond found the boundary early on, carving Phannita Maya away through the offside repeatedly – but she also fell to the spin of Boochatham for 22, to leave Scotland 34-2.

 

The Scots suffered a further setback as Sarah Bryce fell to the first ball following the opening powerplay, bowled by Thipatcha Putthawong for just five.

 

Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister looked to take the attack to Thailand, in particular getting after the leg-spin of Suleeporn Laomi, as they added 67 in 65 deliveries for the fourth wicket.

 

 

Onnicha Kamchomphu made the crucial breakthrough for Thailand, outfoxing Lister (38) who spooned up a simple chance for Naruemol Chaiwai.

 

Kathryn Bryce would go to her 50 from as many deliveries, carving Kamchomphu to the boundary behind square on the offside.

 

Kamchomphu got her revenge, however, as Kathryn Bryce attempted to paddle-sweep but could only direct the ball onto her stumps, falling for 60 with her side 141-5.

 

Katherine Fraser fell without score, bowled by Laomi, and Priyanaz Chatterji would add just five, caught by Chaiwai at a catching mid-wicket off Kamchomphu.

 

Megan McColl continued to tick along, and struck the only six of the innings as she heaved Boochatham down the ground – but both Hannah Rainey and Abtaha Maqsood fell cheaply, bowled by Putthawong.

 

 

McColl and Rachel Slater added an important 21 for the final wicket, McColl reaching her 50 before she was the last batter out, LBW to Sunida Chaturongrattana for a 60-ball 57 as Scotland were bowled out for 206 inside 41 overs.

 

Thailand’s pursuit of 207 started superbly as Boochatham and Sutthiruang found the boundary with regularity, the former taking Kathryn Bryce for three boundaries in four deliveries.

 

The pair raced to 41-0 in eight overs, before Slater struck decisively to remove both in the space of an over.

 

First, she trapped Boochatham LBW, and then had Sutthiruang bowled, the Thailand opener deflecting the ball onto her own stumps.

 

Slater continued to cause problems for Thailand, swinging one back into Nannapat Koncharoenkai’s middle stump as she departed for just three, her side sliding to 46-3.

 

 

Chantham and Chaiwai looked to steady the ship as they added 25 for the fourth wicket, but Abtaha Maqsood made the breakthrough, trapping Chaiwai (7) in front.

 

Thailand continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, Putthawong edging Fraser to Lister at slip, before Lister was again involved as she took a steepling catch off the bowling of Rainey to dismiss Maya.

 

Chantham would reach a superb half-century, consisting of six fours and one six, but Fraser struck to remove, Suwanan Khiaoto (8) who edged behind to Sarah Bryce.

 

Laomi was the next to depart, without scoring, bowled by Maqsood, and the Scottish spinner then took the big wicket of Chantham (63), to leave Thailand 145-9.

 

Fraser would wrap up the innings as Kamchomphu fell for just two, as Thailand were bowled out for 148, 56 short of Scotland's total.
