SCOTLAND U19 DEFEAT GUERNSEY TO CONTINUE 100% RECORD

Scotland Men's Under 19s made it three wins from three in the U19 World Cup Qualifier, as they eased to an 82 run victory over Guernsey.

 

The Scots posted a tournament-high score of 280-8, a total that always looked beyond Guernsey who were behind the rate from the start, eventually being bowled out for 198 in the 44th over.

 

Scotland had contributors right throughout their batting line-up, with six players passing 20, but only Finlay Carter passing 50, as he made 57 - part of an important 78-run fifth-wicket partnership alongside Ethan Ramsay (45).

 

Guernsey had checked Scotland's progress, when they were reduced to 214-7 - but Thomas Knight struck an unbeaten 33 from just 18 balls, and Finlay Jones added 16 from nine, as 66 runs were added from the final 32 deliveries.

 

 

In response, Guernsey openers Ed Robinson (22) and Freddie Forshaw (34) frustrated the Scotland attack, batting for almost 15 overs, before Ollie Jones made the breakthrough by bowling Robinson - although the pair had added only 46 in that time.

 

It was a start that left Guernsey with a lot of work to do in pursuit of 281 and, as wickets fell regularly, they failed to recover - Jake Woodhouse (3-26) and Ram Sharma (3-30) both impressing through the middle.

 

Despite a late flourish from Charlie Forshaw, who made an unbeaten 43 from 47, Guernsey ultimately fell 82 runs short - the final wicket falling as excellent work from Ramsay in the deep saw Alfie Gallienne run out.

 

Scotland now return to action on Tuesday 5 August at Arbroath United CC, against Denmark.
