SCOTS DEFEAT NEPAL TO WIN TRI-SERIES

A strong all-round performance enabled Scotland to defeat Nepal by 34 runs and win the Men's T20 International Tri-Series at Clydesdale on Friday.

 

Batting first, the Scots piled up 193-5 in 20 overs, powered by 78 from George Munsey and 42 from Brandon McMullen. Nepal were never in the hunt in reply, as they were bowled out for 159, with Chris Greaves taking 3-27.

 

The result meant Scotland, Nepal and Netherlands all finished with two wins apiece, with the hosts topping the table via net run-rate.

 

Scotland will next head to Netherlands for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, bidding for one of two places at next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup, and they will go into that series in a more confident frame of mind, after this dominant display in Glasgow.

 

 

The Scots players celebrated alongside match scorer Neil Leitch, who was marking 50 years of involvement in scoring with the national team.

 

Player of the Match Munsey said:

 

"The sun was shining today and it was a really nice deck for us to bat on today. T20 cricket is my favourite format, and I just really love getting out there and trying to hit sixes. It was good to get out there and contribute for the team."

 

Scotland captain Richie Berrington said:

 

"I think this series has been great preparation for us for what's ahead, and it was really important today that we came out and finished the series strong. It was a clinical performance with the bat, ball and in the field.

 

 

"Winning is a good habit to have, and hopefully we can take this momentum into the qualifiers. There's been a lot of competitive cricket over the last two weeks, and the more series we can have like this the better.

 

"I'd also like to thank everyone at Clydesdale, as there's been a massive amount of effort put in to make this week happen - we've really enjoyed being here and playing in front of these great crowds."
