OPENING U19 WORLD CUP GAME ABANDONED WITHOUT A BALL BEING BOWLED

Scotland's ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup campaign suffered a false start in Harare, as wet ground conditions saw their opening fixture against Zimbabwe abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The weather was bright and dry at Takashinga Sports Club today, but recent heavy rainfall meant that there were a number of areas of concern with the playing surface, which ultimately caused the umpires to call off the game following a number of inspections.

Keegan Russell, Scotland Men's U19 Head Coach, said: "We're really gutted that today's match couldn't go ahead, the boys were really excited and really tracking well, and it was shaping up to be a great game of cricket against the hosts.

"Now our focus shifts onto Pakistan and controlling what we can control. We have a few days to refocus and prepare hard for that challenge, and whilst today was disappointing, we're excited for the 19th and getting into the competition."

Both sides will take one point each from this game, with Scotland next in action on Monday 19 January against Pakistan (0730 GMT) at the same venue.
