CRICKET SCOTLAND CONTINUES COMMITMENT TO CHILD WELLBEING AND PROTECTION
This winter, Cricket Scotland is once again running a range of courses aimed at training and supporting those working with children and adults, as part of our long-standing commitment to safeguarding the children involved in our sport.
Cricket Scotland offers three free courses to the cricket community:
- Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport (CWPS)
- Safe in Cricket Webinar – A Guide to Coaching Children
- Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer Training
The CWPS course is mandatory for anyone in a regulated role (paid or unpaid) - delivering or leading cricket activities for children and young people.
The Safe in Cricket Webinar covers specific elements relating to coaching such as one to one coaching, changing rooms, physical contact, social media, managing challenging behaviours and taking photos. The webinar is relevant for everyone working with children.
Andrew Mavin, Cricket Scotland Safeguarding Coordinator, said:
"Ensuring that anyone working with children is suitably trained and supported is central to the work we do. It is essential that those working in this area have the confidence and the knowledge to keep children safe and protect their wellbeing.
"The CWPS training is made up of two online modules and provides participants with the appropriate knowledge of child wellbeing and protection to identify and respond to concerns that may arise in their role working with children and young people.
"Cricket Scotland is also providing those volunteering with children at clubs the opportunity to participate in a free, one hour, 'Safe in Cricket' webinar which covers good practice in coaching cricket involving children.
"Both of these courses will help those involved in cricket to ensure that the wellbeing and safeguarding of children is at the forefront of everything we do in cricket in Scotland."
