DISABILITY FESTIVAL AT U19 QUALIFIER HITS THE MARK

Cricket Scotland welcomed participants from across the country for a Disability Cricket Festival on Sunday 3 August at Strathmore CC, specially commissioned as part of the legacy project created by hosting ICC Men's U19 World Cup Qualifier.

 

Ten participants, along with their carers, as well as five community coaches, enjoyed an action-packed day in the sun run alongside the qualifying fixture between Scotland and Guernsey. The session was attended by new Cricket Scotland President Omar Henry and ICC Europe Development Manager Andy Wright, who presented certificates to all participants to mark their special day.

 

 

Connor Brian, Cricket Scotland's Disability Cricket Development Officer, said:

 

"It was a fantastic day - an invite went out to all Disability Cricket programmes across the country, and we had a really good showing from Kinloch CC and Strathmore CC in particular, as well as some participants from our new Edinburgh Super 1s hub. 

 

"Activities included forming a Guard of Honour to welcome the Scotland and Guernsey players onto the field, before a fun and instructive coaching session next to the match pitch. All areas of cricket including fielding, bowling and batting were involved, which also enabled an inclusive coaches workshop to take place for the coaches present.

 

 

"After a break for lunch and a chance to watch some cricket, the attending community coaches were able to reflect on the session and how they could take elements of the session into their own inclusive club coaching sessions, before demonstrating these skills with some of the participants.

 

"We are grateful to Strathmore Cricket Club for hosting us, and to everyone who helped make this such a great day for all involved."
