HIGHLANDERS ENJOY BEST OF MEN'S REGIONAL SUPER SERIES ROUND TWO
The Caledonian Highlanders enjoyed a successful day in the Men's Regional Super Series, defeating both the Eastern Knights and Western Warriors in Dunfermline - whilst the Knights also tasted victory over the Warriors.
In the day's opening game, the Eastern Knights eased to a 61-run victory over the Western Warriors, as Oli Hairs (48) and Johnathan Van Zyl (43*) helped their side post 166-4.
In reply, Owen Gould (33) and Ollie Jones (30) were the only Warriors batters to pass 20, as they slipped to 105 all out - Rukhmangad Holey (4-20) doing the damage with the ball, supported by Safwan Ullah (2-29) and Shreyas Tekale (2-19).
The Warriors' struggles continued in the afternoon, as they fell to a 13-run defeat to the Caledonian Highlanders.
Batting first, the Highlanders posted 149-7, led by Jamie Dunk's superb 57-ball 77, whilst Michael Leask (25 from 17) was the only other batter to reach double figures.
In reply, Brandon McMullen (50 from 29) and Ollie Jones (49 from 41) had the Warriors in a strong position, but three run outs stifled the chase, as the Warriors were bowled out for 136 - Safyaan Sharif the pick of the bowlers with 3-15.
In the final game of the day, the Highlanders made it back-to-back wins as they chased down 190 with three balls to spare, to beat the Eastern Knights by seven wickets.
Van Zyl (54 from 40) and Chris McBride (50* from 20) fired the Knights to what seemed an imposing 189-4, but a 123-run partnership for the second wicket between Leask and Ryan Brown laid the foundations for a thrilling run chase.
Leask (66 from 43) and Brown (62 from 35) had their side 143-1 in the 14th over, and although both fell in consecutive overs, Olly Davidson (20* from 15) and Sriram Muramalla (24* from 16) saw their side over the line.
The Men's Regional Super Series continues on Sunday 28 June, with another T20 triple-header at Clydesdale CC.
