GREENOCK CRICKET CLUB RAISES ALMOST £25,000 IN FIRST WEEK OF CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN
Greenock Cricket Club's crowdfunding campaign has raised almost £25,000 in its first week, marking a strong start towards delivering a transformational sustainability project after securing funding through the British Gas Energy For Tomorrow programme.
The campaign forms the second stage of the club's successful application to the national programme, through which British Gas will provide £2 of matched funding for every £1 raised through crowdfunding, subject to the campaign reaching its fundraising target.
The funding will support a major sustainability and clubhouse improvement project aimed at reducing the club's environmental impact and strengthening its long-term financial resilience.
The proposed project includes a heating system upgrade, insulation improvements, energy-efficient LED lighting, solar panel installation and wider infrastructure modernisation. Together, these measures will reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs and help secure the long-term future of cricket and community activity at Glenpark.
As with the original funding application, the project extends beyond improvements to the clubhouse itself.
Greenock Cricket Club supports a wide range of schools, charities and community organisations across Inverclyde and continues to reduce barriers to participation through initiatives including free memberships and equipment support for those facing financial hardship.
Speaking as the crowdfunding campaign continues, Greenock Cricket Club Vice President and Project Lead Rod Mountford said:
"The response during the opening week has exceeded our expectations, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the campaign so far.
"Every donation moves us closer to delivering a project that will reduce our energy costs, strengthen the club's long-term sustainability and allow us to invest even more in cricket and our wider community for years to come.
"We also hope our experience encourages other clubs to explore external funding opportunities. Community sport faces many challenges, and programmes such as Energy For Tomorrow demonstrate how investment in sustainable facilities can help secure the future of clubs across Scotland."
Cricket Scotland is highlighting Greenock Cricket Club's success to demonstrate the positive impact external funding can have on community sports organisations and to encourage clubs across the region to explore similar opportunities.
With five weeks of the campaign remaining, the club hopes members of the wider cricket community will continue to support the initiative and help unlock the maximum level of matched funding available through the British Gas Energy For Tomorrow programme.
