CLYDESDALE WIN THRILLING MEN'S SCOTTISH CUP FINAL

CLYDESDALE WIN THRILLING MEN'S SCOTTISH CUP FINAL

Clydesdale won the Men's Scottish Cup for the first time since 2016 with a thrilling 20-run victory over defending champions Heriot's.

The win ended eight years of Eastern dominance in the Scottish Cup - their previous win in 2016 the last time a team from the WDCU lifted the trophy.

After bowling Clydesdale out for 104, Heriot's looked primed to defend their title - spinners James Dickinson (4-20) and Mark Watt (3-38) doing the damage, as no Clydesdale batter passed 25.

But Clydesdale didn't subside, and were back in the game from the moment Adil Ghaffar bowled Watt inside the opening over.

Lloyd Brown (22) and Dougie Voas (10) seemed to have their side on their way to victory, adding 34 for the second wicket- but 35-1 quickly became 40-5 as Ghaffar and Ravi Alavala ripped through the Heriot's top order.

Ghaffar and Alavala shared the first six wickets between them - before the reintroduction of Rahman cleaned up the lower order, his dismissal of Adrian Neill sealing the win as Heriot's had slipped to 84 all out.

Clydesdale captain Kallum Dhami took the catch to dismiss Neill, sparking jubilant scenes and a pitch invasion by the support from Titwood, who had travelled in their hundreds to cheer on their heroes.

With both sides having now triumphed in cup competition this August, there will be one final showdown between Clydesdale and Heriots on 6 September at Grange Loan, when they clash in the Grand Final as winners of the WDCU and EPL respectively.
