SCOTLAND LOSE TENSE CONTEST TO NETHERLANDS
Scotland Women lost a tense contest to the Netherlands by three wickets, as an unbroken 40-run partnership between Caroline Lange and Eva Lynch saw the hosts to their target of 181.
Darcey Carter's 86 saw Scotland post 180, and despite the Netherlands slumping from 49-0 to 110-6 in reply, they were able to get over the line inside 41 overs.
Scotland's hero from the opening game against PNG, Saskia Horley, failed to repeat her stunning century, as she fell inside the first over without scoring to Iris Zwilling.
Someone needed to step up following Horley's departure, and that person was Carter, who played positively as she looked to take the Dutch spinners over the top at every opportunity.
Abbi Aitken-Drummond (17) and Priyanaz Chatterji (13) both made starts without kicking on, and when Megan McColl was bowled by Lange for just 3, Scotland had slipped to 76-4.
Lorna Jack-Brown would join Carter in the middle, and it looked as though the pair could build a match-defining partnership, adding 72 in good time for the fifth wicket before Jack-Brown saw her leg-stump removed by Zwilling, falling for a 35-ball 34.
That proved to be the crucial breakthrough for the Dutch, as Scotland went on to lose their final five wickets for just 32 runs, Carter the ninth batter dismissed as she looked to go on the attack, caught behind square on the offside by Phebe Molkenboer off Zwilling.
Olivia Bell would be the final Scotland batter to fall, caught and bowled by the impressive Zwilling, who finished with 4-31, as Craig Wallace's side were bowled out for 180.
The Netherlands' reply got off to a superb start, Babette de Leede and Molkenboer adding 49 for the opening wicket, before Chloe Abel made the breakthrough as she had De Leede caught down the leg-side by Ellen Watson.
Abtaha Maqsood brought herself into the attack with instant results, the Scotland skipper removing Annemign Beuge (3), Robine Rijke (5) and Molkenboer (33), as the chasing side were reduced to 79-4.
Scotland were on top when Carter struck in the following over, bowling Zwilling (5) to leave the Netherlands 81-5, still requiring a further 100.
Horley and Katherine Fraser both struck at crucial moments to leave the game on a knife-edge, Carlijn Koolwijk (19) falling to Horley with the score on 110, and Frederqiue Overdijk (17) departing to Fraser with the Netherlands 40 away from their target.
Coming together with the game in the balance, Lange (29*) and Lynch (26*) would play superbly to guide their side to their second victory of the tri-series.
